MySQL can be described as a SQL-Server.
MSSQL can be described as a RDBMS.

The difference is astronomical.

I think MySQL is a fantastic SQL server.  But for it to be considered a
RDBMS it still requires a significant of important functionality.

That said, I would choose MySQL for a mud SQL server as my first choice.
