Nu stiu cine a trimis raspunsul, dar mi-a placut.

P.S.  Imi pare rau pentru un oarecare "maestru", dar n-am timp sa-i traduc in romana articolul.  E treaba lui sa se descurce.

I am writing in response to your Feature by Andreea Pocotila, “Holocaust writer: Gypsies harm Romania’s image” published in your 226th issue of Tuesday, April 26, 2005.

The Holocaust writer Meir Wagner, a Romanian-born Swiss citizen, seems to be more of a businessman currently working on some serious leverage for his “Righteous of Romania” research/book. His patronizing aura/tone will no doubt stir the right(eous) reaction among the notables he seems to be very busy contacting. After all, Romania is still one of those places where being assertive to the point of cheekiness can do wonders for the success of one’s endeavours.

However it is not Mr Wagner’s chances at success I would like to comment upon, but his answers to Gypsy/Roma- related questions.

From the onset I must say that I find his statements both appalling and sad, especially in light of his being a Holocaust writer commending the Righteous. Perhaps that is what journalist Andreea Pocotila aimed at pointing out with her headline?...

Mr Wagner does a great job at making his Roma views very explicit. I hope you will agree that none of the following quotes from Mr Wagner’s stated opinions about Roma people can be deemed ambiguous:
“They are not positive people.”
“It is like the problem of the black people in America. They were brought to be slaves and work here, and now they have to keep them. It is necessary to get rid of them.”
“… they are not interested in this (education).”

But Mr Wagner’s premium contribution to Romania’s efforts to solve its Roma-related issues is the solution he eventually concedes to offer:
“EXPORT THEM; TRANSFER THEM TO SOME COUNTRIES THAT HAVEN’T GOT ENOUGH PEOPLE TO WORK.”

I cannot help but remember Mr Vadim Tudor’s proposed solution some years ago, offered with equally impressive simplicity and sincerity: if the Americans have put the Native Americans in reservations, why can’t we put the Gypsies in reservations too?! Mr Tudor’s late sympathy and interest in Jewish matters is suddenly making sense – I think I know what kind of people he’s been hanging out with.

A group of Roma activists symbolically set up the first reservation/concentration camp right outside Mr Tudor’s residence/party headquarters at the time. We did that as a sign of recognition towards Mr Tudor’s righteousness, as a Senator of the People, elected through democratic vote to better the lives of Romanians. You see, we don’t want trouble, we want to be good citizens. We love Romania too – it’s our country.

It is with the same trust in Mr Wagner’s good intentions to help Romania and insight into Roma-issues that we ask: HAVE YOU GOT THE TRAINS READY, MR WAGNER?
