Today I participated to a Conference of stagiaries to the Council of European Union, concerning EU common values. I would be happy to share with you teh principal ideas.
Insisting on universality of our values also helps against the charge of double-standars. The conclusion was that we have to put the human beeing at the center, as a commun value and not national interest, which is not the interest of all national citizens... We have to restructure all EU institutions according with this value and to Restructure the world according with the same value. So we have to change our paradigm and put together Ethics and Politics (Transforming politics in normative policy and not power struggle) Actual structure of the world take into account only nation states and not people...They don't exists. Human dignity is related to structural peace.EU as peace provider can become an international ethical actor. EU could be an Ethical superpower to bring prosperity to the community (In political terms) and to the individual (in ethic terms). We have to reconcile politics with etics. EU can make alliances with India and create a peaceful world structure.
