Romania has been selected to participate in the 2010 edition of the European
Prize for Literature (EUPL) to be awarded in November 2010, the European
Commission (EC) has said on its website.

Emerging authors from 11 countries participating in the EU Culture Program
will be given awards during the ceremony in November.

Romania has been selected to participate in the 2010 European Prize for
Literature along with Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany,
Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Macedonia.

"The aim of EUPL is to put a spotlight on the creativity and diversity of
contemporary European literature, to promote circulation of literature in
Europe and to encourage greater interest in foreign literature," the EC
website said.

In 2009, 12 prizes were awarded to emerging authors during a ceremony in
Brussels celebrating the diversity of European literature.

Romania-born writer Herta Müller was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature
in 2009.
