We have been involved with the same process: integrating UML/Rose/RUP within
our company. On thing that I have encountered is that many people who know
UML either learned it informally or learned an earlier version. There can
significant differences -- especially in use-cases -- in model boundaries,
granularity, diagram usage and placement and, notation. If you using RUP
adherence to the latest 1.3 spec is important. As the RUP is driven by the
use-case model (and any process uses it for its root), variations from the
1.3 spec -- indeed variations in the way use cases are done from one analyst
to the next can propagate to the analysis/design model, test model,
iteration planning and project estimating. Make a commitment to the latest
version of OMG version of UML and don't take for granted that each person
knows this standard.
