The tool that you refer to was originally available with later releases of Visual Studio Enterprise 5 - it was called Visual Modeller.

This was also included with Visual Studio 6 Enterprise and was, as you point out, developed by Rational for Microsoft.

This is a fine utility but I would not go so far as to say that it was like Rose - maybe a 'poor-man's version' though (as while it allowed code generation the diagram types available was very restrictive - certainly to my needs anyway).

*However*, I am delighted to note that Visual Modeller has been enhanced for the .NET release and includes, amongst other things, Use Cases. Its still not a patch on Rose but I wait with abated breath for the final release to see what shape and form it takes...

To answer the original query though, I do not think it is yet possible to achieve what you wish to do.  I have tried this myself (with Rose 2000 and Visio 2001) with no success.  However, if you find that it is possible I would be interested to know how it can be achieved.

there is something like Rose INSIDE visualstudio.net. And I've heard from rational that they where helping microsoft with the visualstudio integration and their tools (like rose).

Subject: RE: (ROSE) Visual Studio .NET

Hello everybody

I have a question that forum members have already asked (see mailing list in December), but I still have any answer and I can't find enough information on the Rational or Microsoft website. Does anybody know how to integrate/use Rational Rose 2001 (enreprise) to a project in Visual Studio.NET (beta1)?
And is it possible to import UML diagrams made with Visio 2001 in Visual Studio.NET?

Thanks!
