The definition of an Actor is a someone or something that is outside the system that interacts with the system.  If you're writing software that interfaces with a sensor on the barrier/arming device, that sensor would be an actor.  A component that is part of your system should not be represented as an actor.

Hope that helps

Subject: (ROSE) External Hardware Actors ??

Hi,

We develop a system for a parking area and we have a software system that will be link to different harware device like a barrier, an arming loop (a device that recognize the presence of a car) etc. My question: since we will have software component to represent the hardware device, and we will have some controle on them, how do we consider them, like an actor ?? My first tought is no. What is your opinion ??
