RUP is based on year years of experiences in software development by the
great gurus.
also it's very flexible in what to do and what not. So i wouldn't call it a
'law' that we have to do.
btw : where did you heard of "Don't let non-programmers near the UML",
because that's just one of the powers of uml.

About the RTFM postings: Yes, I have read the RUP documentation. I was just
wondering if all you experts out there really do what the "law" tells us to
do. There might just be other rules of thumb ("Don't let non-programmers
near the UML") that would enable us to jump over pitfalls, but it looks
like everyone is happy with what is written in the documentation.
That's all I wanted to know.
