You don't mention how many people you have in your organisation. XP is not
suitable for large projects of 20 people or more but is eminently suitable
for smaller projects. Its worth trying to agree on what issue you want to
solve with process before deciding which process to use. Agile is more of a
philosophy than a process. Its worth agreeing on a common philosophy and
construct an "Agile" like manifesto before you decide on the nuts and bolts
of the process.
It is possible that your don't have to choose between Agile/XP and RUP.
RUP recommends you set-up an organisational process which are the process
your organisation use and project specific processes that are tailored from
the organisation process. A possible solution is to include XP/Agile and RUP
as part of your organisational process and develop guidelines to help tailor
them for each project.

Hi group.
Our company is suffering a process and productivity crisis and we are
discussing rigth now about our process. I try to defend RUP (in a ligth
way) has a way to improve our process and other argues that XP and Agile
aproach could be better (non documents, recording meetings and programming
approach).
The XP approach sounds good to the old fashion programmers (the ones with
more power at the company) and they argue that all that documenttion, desing
and steps delays our process. The next week I must defend my position and I
trying to gather my best arguments so I can should that a methodological
apporach is the bets way to improve.
Can you share some of your strongest and evident arguments with me?
