I do not have Visual Cafe to test it.
But, here is a suggestion that might work: Before reverse engineering the project, go to Tools > Java/J2EE > Project Specification > Fundamental Types tab > Remove Common JDK Classes > OK. Now, try RE. It might also fix your other issue about not finding a method in your model. That typically happens if Rose cannot properly match the method signature. It seem to have caused by using common Java classes as fundamental types. Hope that helps.
