No…it should work even if you try to do this individually.  The script is not a workaround but rather a means for you to auto resize several classes at once without you having to do it manually for each class.

Do you have automatic resize turned on at Tools->Options level?

See the online help entries listed below:

/////

Automatic Resize (Format Menu)

Use the Automatic Resize command to enable the automatic resizing of icons to accommodate text in an icon.

To automatically resize an icon already on the diagram:

1.  Select the icon(s).

2.  Click Format > Automatic Resize.

A check mark next to this command on the Format menu means the feature is enabled for the selected icon(s).

Note: Automatic Resize does not work on packages. However, you can resize packages by dragging one of the sizing handles that appear when you select a package or by clicking Format > Autosize All.

/////

Autosize All (Format Menu)

This command will grow or shrink each icon in the current diagram as necessary so that the name, compartment and any other adornment labels fit wholly within the icon. Use this if you have icons in your diagram that don't have the auto resize option set and you would like to do a one-time autoresize on these icons.

Thanks for the work-around.

But  what you are saying then is  that it really is a bug that Format->Autmatic Resize does not work when set for a specific class?

Ari,

First thing to do is to do a Tools->Options and look under the Diagram tab.  In there you will find an ‘Automatic resizing’ check box.  Make sure that you check this.  This will ensure that Automatic resizing is applied to all elements placed on diagrams from this point on.  As far as classes that are already on diagram go you can use the attached script to auto resize them.

Subject: (ROSE) Automatic Resize

I am using Rose Enterprise Edition 2002.05.00 and am annoyed by the fact that classes in diagrams seem to change after the diagram has been saved and also the stereotype label is drown on top of the Class name so it is impossible to make out the text.

To avoid this I have "Format/Automatic Resize" checked for all classes. This however doesn't seem to have any effect unless you select the class in the diagram, then ucheck "Format/Automatic Resize" and then reapply it again.  See attached before & after diagrams.

Is this a bug?

Regards,

Ari Johannesson
