Frank, you are headed in the right direction and what I said was a bit misleading.  I would use the note link relation (the dashed line) to tie the associations together.  Then, you need to go to the spec dialog for one of the associations, choose the Detail tab, and define the association-level constraint as XOR.  This will show up on your diagram as {XOR}.  I then would drag this on the diagram so that it appears as a label next to the note link.

How do you place a constrait relation between associations in Rose?

 

UML specification states that you want to (1) place a dashed line between associations and (2) lable the constraint "Xor".

(1) is possible in Rose by using the dash line normally used to anchor a note to an item, whereas (2) is not very clear in Rose

since one can only add constraint to associations and the dash line doesn't have a place to hold constraint or anything else.

You would place a constraint relation between the associations that are being XORed, then label the constraint "XOR", or whatever suits your fancy.
