While not understanding the size, scope or issues being faced by your
project, the Environment workflow recommends Design Guidelines and
Programming Guidelines for the A&D workflow, Use Case Guidelines (or other
if you are not going to use Use Cases) for the Requirements workflow. Then
for each tool, a guideline for how the tool is to be used to meet the
governing guidelines. I strongly recommend that tool specific guidelines are
produced after being used for a while to ensure that no unrealistic usage
models/constraints are placed upon the team. To accelerate the development
of any guideline, I strongly recommend obtaining assistance from an
EXPERIENCED user of the tool and process (eg a Rational Software Engineer or
Partner Consultant).

Given you have a suite, I recommend that you plan to use SoDA to generate at
least the Software Architecture Document. To facilitate this, your design
guidelines will need to define the model structure and conventions required
so SoDA can find the appropriate information and present it. Other reports
will also be useful but this is a high-payback use of SoDA because SAD's
tend to be expensive to maintain and therefore often NOT.

In addition to tool guidelines, the use of RequisitePro will be supported by
a Requirements Management Plan (a sample is created along with the project).

Subject: (ROSE) Any suggestion on setting up standards?

Hi there,

I am new to RUP and Rational tools. My company has recently purchased the
Rational Suite Enterprise and has decided to use RUP and Rational tools
(mainly RequisitePro and Rose) in a pilot web project. My company is hoping
that through this pilot project, we can start setting up standards on how to
use Rational tools. Can anyone suggest what kind of guidelines my company
should consider to establish in the analysis & design discipline and
especially in terms of using Rational Rose?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hor
