That would explain the original changing of the name in his first 
appearance as David, and it makes sense...but not so much in ep 138...

Roseanne to Dan: "Have you seen the kind of control she [Darlene] has 
over him?.....I mean David isn't even his real name, she just made that up!"

I guess I could buy into the fact that she is just poking fun at the 
show because his name changed.  They did that numerous times, the 
multiple Becky Switches are a prime example.
