D'you think when you paint a new segment with the pencil tool (or the middle-button with the select tool), it should be selected initially?
I think I probably do. I've just been thinking about how a new user might respond to the GUI, and I think one problem is that most of the things on the Segments menu are frustratingly out of reach until you've worked out how selection works. At least this way you could click on the main canvas and then find you could immediately do something with the new segment. Downside is it loses the existing selection, of course. Unless we add the new segment to that, which I don't think we should.
