Indeed.  The worst thing was that during that period I actually had a couple

I usually don't rock the boat this much, and I shouldn't have to worry about 
an upgrade this massive again for a long time.  That was one reason I did 
what I did.  I got the big one behind me proactively, rather than waiting for 
the eventual day when I'd have to do it.  From here hopefully pretty much 
indefinitely I will be upgrading in a much more reasonable and controlled 
fashion.
