Yes.

It's quite possible, after all the initial problem was a Qt bug as far as I 
can tell.

No. This would be totally obscure to a user, and essentially it's a choice 
between buggy / non buggy behavior. If you need it to print correctly, then 
leave it on (or perhaps hide it behind a 'draft' setting).
