Ok, after a bit of fiddling about I'm settling on this - use of existing <metronome> elements in Studio to define Instrument, program, pitch and the two velocities. In addition using a single field in the Configuration to select Device. Each MidiDevice _should_ have a MidiMetronome attached to it but if not we generate a default on file load that should be saved off next time. The document dialog will modify both the selected device field and allow you to select the other parameters. Going forward with metronome and tempo/timesig etc - for implementation of the new JACK transport correctly we'll need to know (and to be able to control) tempo and timesig (potentially) from the sequencer. What are the thoughts/plans on this? Presumably something to do with the control block to define "current tempo/timesig" should be enough? It'd be nice to integrate the metronome work with this somehow.
