Hi,

I hope it's appropriate to post this here; technically I don't think it
belongs on either list, according to the descriptions sf.net gave me. :)

I am a pianist and occasional composer, and after searching for ages for a
decent MIDI sequencer for Linux, I found Rosegarden. :)

I currently have the CVS version installed. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but
as I understand it, the song has an 'end marker', initially set to 100 bars,
and all recording stops at this point (if not earlier). There is currently no
way to move the end marker.

I'd like to propose that the system be changed so that (MIDI) segments can
have practically unlimited lengths and the end marker moves to accommodate
them. In particular I want to be able to record myself playing a digital
piano, ignoring the MIDI tempo and/or without knowing how long the piece is
in advance. Most piano pieces are longer than the 100 bars (or 200 seconds
with default tempo) offered by Rosegarden; and this will be a usability issue
even when it becomes possible to change the end marker manually, as the
reason for the recording time limit is not obvious.

Obviously any functionality change could inconvenience someone else, so if
necessary, perhaps the program could offer a 'Lock End Marker' option, off by
default?

Would this change be feasible with the code in such a mature state? How much
work would it take? I'd be willing to have a go at changing it myself,
although it would be quicker for someone who already knows the code to do it.
I do appreciate that you are close to the 1.0 release; would you accept such
a change at this stage?

Thanks,

Ben
