Maybe you or Guillaume could help me understand a little more about
why it's fiddly. From what I've seen on previous discussions of the
topic, people want the composition to automatically extend itself. --In
essence, to set the segment duration larger and larger as more notes are
entered. Now right now we have the code to change the duration, but
it's a matter of kicking it off as people are recording (I'm assuming
people who author by hand can perform this manually) and allocating at
least one measure. Now is the problem that it is time-consuming to
resize the canvas? If so, my (not so brilliant) idea is to hold off on
resizing until recording is complete; at that point we can pop up a
dialog along the lines of "Please wait- resizing canvas", thus avoiding
potentially losing note events during the resize. Yah, I'm a rocket
scientist, but it was a thought. I'm sure there's a better reason for
the complexity.
Incidentally, I'm not proposing doing this before 1.0, I was just
curious. Speaking of recording, is there any reason clicking the "Stop"
button on the recording dialog behaves differently than clicking the
stop icon on the toolbar? I noticed clicking "Stop" gives that annoying
effect of being unable to rewind (as if it was paused instead of
stopped). I'll log it in SF if it's a legitimate bug; this is with a
CVS build as of this afternoon.
