Yeah, what makes you think I have a Spanish (European) installed anyway? :)

Actually, I hadn't really looked before. I have no idea how long there has
been an es_US. I've been noticing looking at various things today, and in
days past, that many different sources that talk about what languages are
spoken where are listing Spanish for the US. People here speak every other
language in the world too, including Esperanto (Cxu vi parolas Esperanton?),
but I guess Spanish has gotten enough market share to rate serious mention.
Maybe someday I can actually benefit from speaking this stuff. :)

Pity I can't understand a damn thing they say on the radio. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
o rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr amos noventa y siete punto
nueve (PUNTO nueve :P ) And the music is really appalling too. I mean,
seriously seriously appalling. When that guy in "El Mariachi" showed how he
could replace a whole band with one cheap consumer keyboard, and there was no
more work for mariachis, he wasn't kidding, was he?

Where was I?  Oh.  Here:

->locale
LANG=es
LC_CTYPE="es_ES"
LC_NUMERIC="es_ES"
LC_TIME="es_ES"
LC_COLLATE="es_ES"
LC_MONETARY="es_ES"
LC_MESSAGES="es_ES"
LC_PAPER="es_ES"
LC_NAME="es_ES"
LC_ADDRESS="es_ES"
LC_TELEPHONE="es_ES"
LC_MEASUREMENT="es_ES"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="es_ES"
LC_ALL=es_ES

->set|grep KDE
KDEDIR=/usr
KDE_DEBUG=1
KDE_FULL_SESSION=true
KDE_LANG=es
KDE_MULTIHEAD=false

I don't know how I can get more Spanish than this, and it isn't causing your
problem to manifest. I have not rebooted, or logged out/in with this locale
as the default, but should that actually matter? I'm getting, p. ej.

->ls /dev/asdf
ls: /dev/asdf: No existe el fichero o el directorio
->apt-get asdf
E: Operacin invlida: asdf

Mensaje de El Gimp
La apertura de /home/silvan/asdf ha fallado: Tipo de archivo desconocido

Looks es_ES-ified enough to me. Any chance I'm not seeing this because I have
an up to date Sid box?

->konqueror --version
Qt: 3.3.3
KDE: 3.3.2
Konqueror: 3.3.2
->gs --version
7.07.1

Maybe not in the latter case. Didn't William say 7.07 is ancient?

Now that's interesting...

ii  gs             8.01-5         Transitional package
ii gs-common 0.3.6-0.1 Common files for different Ghostscript relea
ii gs-esp 7.07.1-9 The Ghostscript PostScript interpreter - ESP
ii gs-gpl 8.01-5 The GPL Ghostscript PostScript interpreter

->ls -l /etc/alternatives/gs
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           15 Aug 15 19:35 /etc/alternatives/gs
-> /usr/bin/gs-esp*

I have no clue what the difference is.

WHAT IS ESP GHOSTSCRIPT?

    ESP Ghostscript is a customized version of Ghostscript
    currently based off GNU Ghostscript 7.07.

    ESP Ghostscript includes an enhanced autoconf-based
    configuration script, the CUPS raster driver to support CUPS
    raster printer drivers, and additional patches and drivers
    from various Linux distributors.

Ah. So, without wasting time on further investigation, I probably need this
for CUPS. Well, if it ain't broke...

Anyway, I can't reproduce your troubles.
