Yes. cvs tag -b branch_name cvs update -r branch_name cvs commit You can do this before you start hacking away, or you can do it immediately before you commit (i.e. you don't have to decide to create the branch until you're about to commit to it -- it branches off the last revision you updated from, so there's no problem if the repository has changed in the mean time).
