Speaking of icons what guidelines and tools do people use to make those. I have been typically a programmer and not much of a graphics artist. I have a need to create more GUIs so learning about creating icons would be great.
There are no guidlines... It's all about human perception. Keep it simple, stupid is the best way, always. I'm graphic design student and only thing I can tell you for sure is - professors never though us how to make things (conceptuary), but only technique. It's all about comprehansion, of how humans are guided in creative works. One has it or not.
If this looks like philosophy to you than better leave that graphic work to someone else. :) I'm sure there are many listeners to this list who are will to do the work for you. Take a look to the bright side... You will have much more time for codeing. :)
Hope you haven't get me wrong. Anyway, the best way to learn something is to drop an eye to someons other's work. Just observe what others have done up to now. If you need more concrete answer or any other kind of help, feel free to contact me. We're in this together :)
