Yes please, with caveats:

This shouldn't be possible -- it is easy to do if you change the track 
type, but it would be nice to have an outline of how you can do it 
without, if you can.

This is intentional -- I forgot to mention that you can also now record 
MIDI and audio at the same time.  Oops.  That's rather fundamental.
