Here's one thing that looks odd to me.  Say you start with a barre in 
the bottom space across the middle four strings.

Now, if you add another barre across the middle two strings _above_ it 
(i.e. before it on the fretboard), the original barre stays unchanged.
That's no surprise as the original barre is hiding the new one.

However, if instead you add a single note on one of the middle two 
strings above the original barre, the original barre is split, even 
though it could be assumed to hide the new note as well.
