Yes, I'd think so.

Agreed. They should just stop, unless repeating. The only point of
ambiguity is if the segment itself actually extends beyond the current
end of composition already (and is just being truncated by the end of
the composition). But either of the obvious behaviours would probably
be acceptable for that.

Other canvas-related things you may fancy looking at in this development
phase:

 -- Variable-height tracks. I'm not a big fan of pixel-accurate
draggable handles for track height, I think you end up with a mess that
way. I quite like what Ardour does, which is to have a menu on the
track header from which you can choose the track height from half a
dozen predefined options, and then map (I forget which modifier) plus
mouse wheel to resizing the track. The menu bit doesn't map well onto
our interface of course. Another option would be to make them
draggably resizable, but snapping coarsely to a set of predefined
sizes.

-- Better keyboard/mouse controls. Specifically, some shortcuts for
zoom and scroll left/right, preferably (again) modifier + mouse wheel.
Should ideally work in all windows.

 -- Matrix canvas rewrite...
