Ah.  That makes sense.  I knew there would be at least one unintended 
consequence of changing that.  But damn skippy, I do think this is sound.  We 
already defaulted to a fake treble clef anyway, so there is nothing really 
changing here except that something that already existed is now more obvious.  
Plus users can set the track to get new segments to come out with whatever 
clef they prefer.

The only thing I would say there is room to argue is having some ability to 
draw a segment that truly had no clef at all, and somehow magically guessed 
what fake clef to use for itself by looking at other segments on the track or 
something.  That has potential to be convenient, because it eliminates having 
to go hide all the unwanted extra clefs.  Many of which were already real 
before my new work, I remind everyone; split a segment with no clef, and 
voilĂ , the cut off piece guesses at some kind of clef for itself.  I just 
made our behavior more uniform across the board.

I can see where a truly clef-free segment would be useful, but such a thing 
doesn't exist, and sounds terribly messy to implement.  I'm not volunteering 
to do it, nor am I suggesting anyone else endeavor to do so.
