I'm not convinced that having a separate Jack client is a *total*
disaster (although I'm writing this after a bottle and a half of
Côtes du Rhône). One has to wonder if the jack access methodology of
the sequencer might be improved, then ponder if it wouldn't end up
looking like a nightmare of abstraction and make the whole thin look
as if it was designed by a committee of computer science lecturers
with no programming experience. OTOH, there might be some kind of
weird, contorted reason to have a separate pitch tracker interface to
jack, so that it could be connected to a single instrumental track
with nothing to do with the real business of the rose-gardening that
was ongoing. The tutorial functionality previously discussed springs
to mind. Not sufficiently sober to be more lucid about this right
now. Leave well alone for the moment, say I.

BTW, I did sit with Dougie and try to fathom the scons stuff by
looking at the lirc example. Failed. Would be interested if some kind
soul could tell us what we are doing wrong!
