Does it handle dependencies properly between sources dealt with in different Makefiles? Does it build things in the right order when invoked with -j3? I do think if we're using multiple Makefiles, we need one per top-level directory -- I don't like the base Makefile building stuff from misc, or the gui one building stuff from document.
