No, it's useful for other purposes as well. But I see now that I misunderstood your patch when I glanced at it. I thought you'd changed it so it no longer accepted as input files intended for Lilypond 2.2 and 2.4, whereas what was actually changed was the support for different Lilypond versions when processing the input -- the input files themselves can still be from 1.x, 2.2 or 2.4.
