Not really, sforge will accept it fine (there are no real spam filters on 
sforge anyway, beyond very basic regexp-based blacklisting), and from a user 
standpoint, so will I. I used to hate HTML mail as well, until I realised 
that all these silly typographic conventions we use for quoting, making words 
*stand out*, etc... are just some dumbed down, inefficient markup. Might as 
well use a more efficient, standard one.
