My little moment of fame didn't do much for me at all.

I was really hoping beyond hope that it would, but nothing panned out. When I
got laid off, I was actually jubilant about it at first, as this was the
moment to strike and stop settling for less than I could be, while I had no
comfortable security to keep me entrapped.

It was an interesting and memorable period. I threw away my brand new Deluxe
Motor Carriers Road Atlas. I had a little mission control room set up out
here with three computers surrounding my chair, so I could work on many
things at once. I joined the Society for Technical Communication. I became
a Registered Microsoft Partner, and installed Windows Vista, and Office 2007.
I did a Rosegarden seminar that was an absolute catastrophe all around. A
guy in Germany paid me to write some code, with a promise of more that never
materialized.

I bought another brand new Deluxe Motor Carriers Road Atlas.

At least I have one *marketable* skill, and I *am* skilled. I'm a damn good
truck driver. I just hate being a truck driver.
