Chris has been absent for basically two weeks, so it's time to try to carry on
without him again. If I don't get some kind of fire stoked in the next
while, I'm in real danger of deciding it's time to retire.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how audio preview anything (or audio any other
kind of anything) works, and am in no position to evaluate this proposed fix
at all.

So I have to leave it to you, Chris Weber, to evaluate it for yourself, and
see if you think it's working well enough for inclusion. If so, I'll include
it directly. I definitely don't want this whole issue to get lost in the
deafening sound of silence that has ensued following the release. We already
ran across one patch from several eons ago that nobody remembered to apply
until 12 years later or something, and I don't want to repeat that kind of
misstep.

In fact, I'm thinking we might want to think about pushing out a 1.7.1
follow-on release in the next short while to include this fix and several
others; a list which includes the patch in question, I think.
