Minor correction: This needs to be
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/rosegarden.png
which is correct in your standard installation.

Then
Icon=rosegarden
in the .desktop file works and everyone (me, you, freedesktop
people...) is happy. :)

The mimetytpe icons are installed in
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/mimetypes/
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/mimetypes/
etc
which is also correct. The names of these icon files are defined by
the mimetype definitions in
/usr/share/mime/packages/rosegarden.xml

When the exact dimension of an apps icon or mimetypes icon is
different than what your DE uses, your DE should resize the closest
one automatically. At least this is what KDE does. :)
