Hello all,

I've downloaded the 10.04 source and I'm having a bit of trouble doing what I
think is referred to as a VPATH build, aka parallel or out of source build -
apologies from me if I've got the terminology wrong.

What I'm trying to achieve is building a debug version in one subfolder, and a
release version in another subfolder, all building from common sources.
Starting from the source directory I'm doing

sh ./bootstrap.sh
mkdir build_dbg
cd build_dbg
../configure

and then if I do a make -d I get

make -d
GNU Make 3.81
Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.

PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

This program built for i486-pc-linux-gnu
Reading makefiles...
Reading makefile `Makefile'...

...and at this point it waits indefinitely, doing nothing.

My question is: is anyone else successfully doing out of source builds, or does
anyone have any idea why what I've done there isn't working? Alas I'm no expert
with autotools yet, but I'm prepared to get my hands dirty and fix stuff if
there's a problem.

It's not a disaster if I can't achieve this, but it would be nice. I'm a bit
more familiar with cmake based projects where I'm used to doing things like
mkdir build && cd build && ccmake .. && make to achieve the same thing.

PS. I'm a big fan of Rosegarden, and I'm really enjoying the new Qt4 based
version, hoping to get a bit more involved with the source code in the near
future after having leeched off all your hard work all these years ;-)

Cheers,

Ian.
