Are you sure QSynth is working generally? I've just done a dist-upgrade myself, and I note that when I start QSynth for the first time, it's not configured to use a soundfont yet, even though the synth engine is running, and it appears as though it should be capable of doing something. I also had to change the sample rate from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz to match JACK and my audio hardware. You may need to do one or both of these things yourself. -- D.
