I think it's great to see this work on fixes to basic usability, which often we've been rather ragged about in the past. Thank you for taking the time to look at these! Testing this particular one, I find that I can no longer remember how it used to behave. Did it maintain the left edge position? Maintaining the centre position is sometimes good and sometimes a bit hazardous, because if you zoom out a long way and then back in again, you will usually end up out in space way off to the right of the entire composition. The alternative mentioned in your comment (maintaining playback pointer position) might be preferable. A further alternative might be to maintain the position of the mouse pointer. Audacity does this, and I find it quite useful particularly when zooming with the mouse wheel. Anyone else got a view on this?
