  It maintained the coordinate of the viewport (not sure I'm using the 
proper terminology) while the data zoomed in and out.  (Tough to 
explain.)  So, it would jump all over the place.  If you happened to be 
at the far left edge, since that's always the far left edge regardless 
of zoom level, it would stay there.  But if you were anywhere else, you 
were thrown all over the place.  It made it very difficult to test the 
segment related changes I had made.

  I prefer the center of the view because I like to keep the playback 
pointer off to the left so that I can hit play and hear my changes in 
the context of what comes before.  Both methods are useful.  This should 
be a user preference of some sort.
