I think Chris' patch is the way to go - if we're rewriting those pixmaps from 
scratch and aren't interested in the previous contents, we're wasting our time 
rescaling them, so looks to me as if just reassigning them to empty pixmaps of 
the right size as Chris' patch does is the superior solution. 

I hadn't fully grocked that those pixmaps are totally rewritten after the 
resize.
