Automatic compression, sounds interesting. Can I find some more information about this or can you give hint where I have to look? > In the > past, I would have toggled the repeat property on a segment that was > directly adjacent to another segment, just to get the |: :| signs. Besides the ending 1 of your example is on a different location as I expect, is there a difference between notation and a replay. If play this example I hear a G1, G1, A1, D2, F2, G1, G1, A1, D2, F2, F1. But based on the notation I expect to hear G1, G1, A1, D2, F2, G1, G1, A1, F1. The ending 1 is simply ignored. I wander it is a good idea to have such difference between the playback and notation behavior... > > In any case, segment->isRepeating() can be a starting point for deciding > whether to write out the |: :| or not. For plain repeats I agree, as long there are similar repeating segments at the same time over all exported tracks. But for repeats with endings, I'm not sure. However maybe the new linked segments may help. Imaging a composition with segments A - B - A - C and the A segments are linked segments. This can be noted as |: A | B (ending 1) :| C (ending 2) | A forced use of the Alt-x Lilypond directives is not required any more and the notation matches the replay. Unfortunately this can not be extended to implement Dal Segno/Capo because the symbols have a negative subordering, placing the symbol before a note. In an example A - B - C - D - B - E the second B segment could be noted as a dal segno. However this requires a segno symbol on the barline between segments A and B. And because the symbols have a negative subordering the segno must be place in segment B but then it will appears in the second B segment too. At the end of the second B segment we need a "DS al Coda" but we can have a such direction in both segments B or not at all. I still struggling with implementing repetitions so exported notation matches with what is really sounding. It seems what is noted is not necessarely not what you hear when the play the composition. The question what should take precedence?
