Every time I think of the word "brittle" in connection with code, it 
immediately summons up all these fond memories of your active days 
around here.  It's simply because of the many discussions we had where 
the term came up again and again in connection with this and that.  The 
brittle code was never yours!

It's a good bit of imagery, and I'm a writer.  Like all writers, if I 
encounter a good turn of phrase, I commandeer it!

That's definitely a suggestion worth looking at.  I'm swept up in a 
project just at the moment, but I'm using Rosegarden for the project, so 
I might actually do some active work around here in the next while. 
Encountering Rosegarden's many quirks and limitations first hand always 
has been an excellent source of motivation.

The project, incidentally, is finally learning how to read standard 
notation on guitar.  As a string player (violin?  viola?) you could have 
told me that it's not THAT hard, but I would have obstinately refused to 
believe you until just recently.
