   All the build systems are the same to me.  I avoid them equally. 
Since you (Michael) are the one who typically does the builds/deliveries 
(thanks for that), it's your call.

   I will say that our current autotools system is woefully out of date. 
  Lots of stuff has changed in autotools, and none of our stuff 
resembles anything current.  We're overdue for a refresh.

   The only obvious downside to switching to cmake that I see is the 
need to update the build instructions.  But that doesn't seem like a 
reason to avoid switching.

   If we've got somebody willing to do the work for us, it seems like a 
perfect time for a refresh of the build system.
