Indeed they have an actual duration when played. I only meant zero duration for the "on paper" representation. At least in jazz (and I'm pretty sure in pop and rock too), I would expect acciaccaturas to be played like a very short note (e.g. like a 64th), just before the note that follows (which is still played on the beat, or whereever they were supposed to be played). I don't expect them to be part of any "chord". I assume this is what the slash means ("not that actual duration"), while the non-slashed appogiaturas have the actual duration that they show on paper...
