That's an interesting finding. It's sad that the emu10k1 isn't an
option for people anymore. Even the Roland Sound Canvas is long gone.
What's left of the Sound Canvas line is just a commercial soft synth
put out under the Edirol brand.
I probably never hit this particular issue, because I still have my
Roland SC-33 from 1996. I'm going to be sad when this thing finally
stops working. I understand the capacitors will die eventually.

The same low-latency is available by connecting any hardware
(free-standing) synthesizer via a MIDI interface. Even for an entire
symphony orchestra, you could connect 4 entry-level synthesizers having
the General-MIDI sound-set, and have the low-latency required.
