Since version 10.02 of Rosegarden, the instrument number and the channel number are one in the same. That probably explains the difference Bart is experiencing, but he should still be able to get to the same place. In "Classic" Rosegarden, the instrument (Rosegarden's internal concept) and channel were independent. You could have "General MIDI Device #2" playing on channel 3 if you wanted. This caused a great deal of confusion, because people lost track of what was transmitting on which channels from where, and several bugs were reported that all traced back to the same source. As of 10.02, the independent channel controls were eliminated. Instrument #2 always transmits on channel 2, instrument #11 always transmits on channel 11, etc. When old files are imported that have a different channel arrangement (eg. #2 transmitting on channel 7), they are remapped to the new scheme, and the user is informed that this has taken place. This should work in principle. I couldn't think of any scenario where something would become impossible after making this change, so I did it. The change has been out in the wild for over a year now, with no confirmed reports of anything becoming impossible as a result. It could very well have broken old library files though. Perhaps that is the issue here. Unfortunately, I don't have the necessary hardware to get my hands on this problem in my own studio, and try to figure it out. I would if I could. I'm sure there's a way. -- D.
