Yep, pretty much like modems. Every internal modem I looked at about 6 years ago was actually a "winmodem" which used Windows routines to do the work. If you wanted an actual modem, you HAD to get an external unit. That's why internal modems were dirt cheap - they had no hardware to speak of. -- Check out the website I've been cobbling together.
