Pound sign and hash sign are in an unholy alliance. They are Jekyl and Hyde characters. They share a key. My problem is the obverse of yours. On my Mac mini, shift-3 gives a pound sign but pressing the hash key gives a backslash. Very inconvenient when you wish to write a comment in Python. Fortunately on Mac alt 3 produces a hash symbol. Try some experiments with alt key combinations you might strike lucky.
