I was waiting for someone to make this comment. I'd also predicted that you would be the person most likely to make it :) I believe that Alexis is looking at that separately, which would be my preferred outcome. That seems to suggest MathML as the plan. That plan ain't pretty, because neither is MathML, but it might be the way out of that bind in the long term.
