see http://lwn.net/Articles/616488/ for where this was introduced to the thread.

Later in the discussion (not neccessarily in this subthread) there was a post poining out a statement that the next release would allow for jounrald to not intercept /dev/log

'regular logging' is defined by systemd as either the journal, or the journal with rsyslog using the imjournal module to get the logs out of it.

Oh really? I didn't hear about that. Does that mean that normal logging
doesn't work any longer with systemd?

Sent from phone, thus brief.

This has been disabled by default in some recent versions of systemd,
using the justification of this module and the fact that performance is so
poor. They are saying that in the next release of systemd they will allow
/dev/log to not be managed by systemd so that logging can go directly to
rsyslog.

 hello

I don't know anything about this plugin, but I would advise to you
configure systemd to send the syslog into rsyslog as well instead of try
to reach the opposite way.
in /etc/systemd/journald.conf
[Journal]
ForwardToSyslog=yes

I would really like to standardize on rsyslog v8 across RedHat EL 6 & 7
Servers. In rsyslog v7 there was a plugin, with performance overhead,
named
"imjournal" that was to mitigate systemd database corruption. Is this
still
needed for rsyslog v8?

I have not been able to find an imjournal version for syslog 8 or much
information about this and am concerned that my RHEL 7 servers will have
an
issue if I just stop using the imjournal plugin. This article
http://www.rsyslog.com/doc/imjournal.html near as I can tell is from
back
in July and there is no mention of specific versions of RedHat, Rsyslog
or
Systemd. The video link on this page is from June of 2013.

Thanks for any help.
