how are you checking that? that's much higher than normal.
note that the ulimit that you see as root is not the same ulimit that is in
place when daemons are started.

Any other ideas, something that I can change in Rsyslog config to try
resolve the issue or even better troubleshoot it? Or if you think that this
might not be an rsyslog issue..?
